The 1st of the Big News we have coming over the next few weeks concerns the Queen Marys Clothing Guild
We have changed our name
In tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother
who was our Patron and greatest supporter from 1953 until her
death in 2002 and with the consent of Her Majesty The Queen,
we have changed our name to:
Queen Mother's Clothing Guild
The Guild was set up in 1882 by Lady Wolverton who was asked by the Matron of an orphanage in Dorset to provide 24 pairs of hand knitted socks and 12 jerseys for the children. This request gave Lady Wolverton the idea of starting a small Guild amongst her friends to each knit not less than 2 garments a year to help the orphanage and other Charities in need of clothing. This small Guild has grown over the last 125 years and now distributes yearly, over 25,000 items of new clothing for men, women, children as well as household linen via relevant Charities to the sick and needy in the UK. Today, we remain the longest standing multidenominational Charity providing this service
Remeber Lauraine's Crafts is the only drop off point in Moray and Banffshire for this
Don't forget either that the Queen Mothers Clothing Guild of Scotland is still ongoing and details can be given if you fill out the contact us page as I am the President of this area of the Queen Mothers Clothing Guild of Scotland and I personnally come out and see the knitters with their wool they get for free for knitting for the guild and collect their garments. All garments types in all shapes and sizes are more than welcome.
